According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, running back Tiki Barber will likely sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers once lockout ends and he is released by the Giants and is eligible to become a free agent. King believes that because of the close relationship between Tampa Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, it will impact his decision to sign Barber. He also believes that Tomlin wouldn’t back down from the media attention that Barber will draw. There wouldn’t be any pressure on Barber to have a big impact right away since the Steelers already have Rashard Mendenhall as their starter.
One NFL source mentioned to King that Barber would love to play in Pittsburgh. But he also wants to get a good amount of touches.
The Steelers could be a good place for Barber. But if he wants a lot of carries that will difficult since the Steelers already have an established starter with Mendenhall and a good looking young back in Issac Redman who came on late last season. All we can do right now is wait and see how everything plays out.
